What should issue statuses mean?

Board columns are more than colored headings. They explain when work is ready to be picked up and when it can move to the next stage.

How to apply it

Agree on the meaning of backlog, to do, in progress, review and completion. Change status in Taskending to reflect actual progress. Moving into review should mean that the reviewer has the context needed to check the work, not merely that coding has stopped.

A concrete example

For a screen change, in progress may mean implementation, review may require a test URL and criteria, and done may mean the accepted output has been delivered. If release is tracked separately in your process, explain that distinction in the issue.

What to watch for

Status history is a communication record. Do not advance tasks merely to make a board look healthy. Calling blocked work complete or counting cancellation as successful delivery distorts reports.

How to check the outcome

Pick three issues from a column. Do all meet the same entry condition? If not, simplify the definition and write down the check required at the transition.

Try it in your own workflow.
